Auditing on the Cleanliness of all the Sibu Municipal Council Public Toilets.

Sibu Municipal Council had started the auditing of all the Public Toilets under it's jurisdictions and the format used for the auditing is from Ministry of Housing & Local Government's Environmental Health unit or "Bahagian Kesihatan Persekitaran "(BM). The Auditing Format is in our National Language. Sibu Municipal Council will be doing a half yearly auditing besides the daily inspections.

The Format of the auditing will covered the Physical & Maintenance aspects of the Public Toilets and marks will be given after each auditing.

The marks given will determine the level of Cleanliness of these Toilets as follows:-

(A) Excellence = above 90
(B) Good = 81 to 90
(C) Satisfactory = 60 to 80
(D) Dirty = below 60

Those found dirty or not up to the Standard might have his or her Tender terminated (in the case of the engaged public toilet cleaners) and also the toilets would be closed for thorough Cleaning.

This is the Auditng Format used by Sibu Municipal Council.

Liquid Soap Dispenser.

Sibu Municipal Council is now campaigning or encouraging all the eateries to provide Liquid Soap Dispensers for the convenience of their patron/customers. The Sibu Municipal Council might make it mandatory and will be including this facilities in the licensing Conditions of the eateries. Failure to comply might resulted in a penalty of a fine and a demerit point in the annual grading of the premises. Council is quite serious in this implementation.

1. Press release of the Use of the Soap dispensers in eateries by Sibu Municipal Council.

Sibu Toilet Council was also instructed to ensure that all Council Public Toilets or any toilets in the council buildings which public had the assess to be provided with liquid soap dispensers.(Leadership by example) Council had a total of 34 toilets' facilities located in Public libraries, Swimming pools, Markets, Bus terminal and in Community Parks/ gardens and Halls.

2. "Leadership by example" was the topic in the press report by the local Chinese newspaper that council had installed the soap dispensers to all the public toilets owned by Sibu Municipal Council, Sibu.

There are various type of Liquid /gel/foam Dispensers in the Market and some of them made of plastic, alloy & metal fitted with push button or mechanical device to dispense liquid , gel or foam soap .

3. One type of automatic soap foam dispenser.

4. This is the bottle of liquid hand wash containing alcohol based formulation for cleaning or sanitizing hands.

In the event of any outbreak of any contagious diseases , general public are advised to adhere to the strict personal hygiene and hand washing is one of the personal hygiene practices which is very important as this will minimise the spread of the disease. How to do a proper hand washing ? Many companies involved in the sanitary wares & services had their own sets of guidelines for the hand washing and the World Health Organization (WHO) do also have one.

5. World Health Organization: Hand scrub & Hand wash.

Our toilet cleaners were also told to make sure that all the public toilet's door knobs, press buttons of the urinals, flushing cistern as well as the faucets or taps are cleansed after each use by the public to prevent cross contamination. We are very lucky that most of our toilets were constructed with the concept of the "Open air" which will dry up very quickly and abundant "Sunlight" will kill germs too. Isn't that environmental friendly?

Malaysian Standard School Toilet for SK Abang Ali, Sibu?

Today is Saturday, 14th March 2009. Sibu Toilet Council chairperson, Cr. Robert Lau Hui Yew, Architect Mr. Tang from the "Kumpulan Design" and myself , we visited the Government primary school, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Abang Ali. Well, for what's purpose? it's the Toilet again!
This time as according to STC Chair,Cr. Robert Lau Hui Yew that they are going to bid for fund to renovate or re construct another standard toilet for this School. Our purpose is to get the measurements of the existing toilet and the land, it occupied. Yes, was told by Cr. Robert Lau Hui Yew that this ideas of having a new toilet for this school was mooted by Cr. Abang Iskandar bin Abang Latip . Cr. Robert Lau Hui Yew also said that the rain water harvesting facilities to be incorporated in this toilet facilities and the rain water catchment area is from the roof of the school 's admin block. It's quite difficult to construct a toilet without any fund but I had the confidence in Cr. Robert and Cr. Iskandar that they will come out with the fund. Keeping fingers closed and hoping for the best. Dreams do come true!

1. The School.

Something about this School, "Sekolah Kebangsaan"(SK) Abang Ali Sibu (or formerly Known as SUDC No.1) The school is the Oldest School in Sibu and if not mistaken, being around since Year 1890. The School had been shifted several times and finally in this location. The School was formerly under the charge of Sibu Urban District Council (SUDC) or Present Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) and finally handed over to the State Government. Wonder whether it's the first School which was under SUDC or SMC ? Gather from the notice board or the memorial corner of the school, this school was named after one teacher, Mr. Abang Ali bin....who was born in Kuching and was instructed by one of the White Rajah, Charles Brooke in the year 1890 to set up a school in Sibu.

2. Main Entrance to the School

3. Building or Block of the School (admin block)

4. Another view.

SK Abang Ali Sibu is a government school and the medium of education is "Bahasa Malaysia" and the teaching staff with non-teaching staff is about 61 and student is about 800 ++ The ratio of boys and Girls is 50:50.
The toilet which Cr. Robert & Cr. Abang Iskandar bin Abg Latip proposed to take down is a single story with two separate partition for both boys & girl. Boys' toilet had 6 cubicles plus one common urinal and with girls' was provided with 6 cubicles. Teachers and clerical had their own toilets. All the pipes and man holes to this toilet were found cracked and leaking. From the signs and the stains in the drain , we think that the compound of this toilet is subjected to flooding. The areas of this toilet is quite small as compare to Sibu 1st Malaysian Standard Model School Toilet at SK Perbandaran N0.4 and it's about 6.00 ++ by 8.00 ++ metres in size.

5. The view of the Toilet (middle ) from the third floor of the School block.

6. The Entrance to the Toilet.

7. Boys' Toilet with Cubicles.

8. Boys' toilet with common urinal (hidden by the wall)

9. Girls' toilet with cubicles.
10. Cr. Robert Lau with Architect Mr. Tang.

11. The Side view of the toilet.

12. Elevated man hole (note the leakage)

13. Architect Mr. Tang (from KD)
14. What's Cr. Robert doing? Taking the pics of the cracked r.c foundation stilts.
15. Extended waste pipes
Well, again, keeping all our fingers closed and hoping that SK Abang Ali Sibu will be the second school in Sibu Division to get a Malaysian Standard School Toilet.
One last thing , please note that the date printed on all the pics was a bit earlier ...Sorry forget to adjust the date.
